One of three people arrested for breaking into a house in late December 2022 appeared during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Monday.
Thirty-seven-year-old Cory Scott Shelton pled guilty to allegations that he had violated the terms and conditions of his probation handed down in the 2022 case and was sentenced to three years in prison.
A petition to revoke his probation was filed in late August, alleging he had failed to report to his supervising officer as directed, was behind in payments for fines and fees and at the time the petition was filed probation/parole officers had no contact with Shelton.
Shelton, along with a mother and son, 59-year-old Lori Ann Thorne and 24-year-old Michael Thorne, were all found in a residence along Cooper Estates Drive on October 21, 2022.
The manager of the property called Mountain Home police after seeing a light on in the house and then observed someone moving around. He told police no one should have been in the house. The manager remained at the site until police arrived in case someone tried to flee.
When officers arrived on scene, they announced their presence and instructed anyone inside the house to come out with their hands up.
One officer was watching the back of the house when Michael Thorne was reported to have exited a rear door and attempted to run off. He was stopped and put in hand restraints.
The next person encountered was Lori Thorne. After she came down the stairs, she was told multiple times to come out of the house and surrender. She was reported to have “complied slowly.”
Once she eventually came outside, Lori Thorne was ordered to get on her knees and then on her stomach. She became argumentative and refused to follow commands to lie on the ground.
Due to a concern that more suspects might still be in the house, Lori Thorne was “physically placed in a prone position.”
After the mother and son had been taken into custody, two officers entered the residence ordering anyone left inside to surrender.
At that point, Shelton called out saying he was coming out. He is reported to have been taken into custody without incident.
When officers searched the house, they found a glass-smoking pipe with a burned residue in the living room. All three suspects denied ownership of the pipe, so all were charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Several “display model cellphones” were also found. There is no indication in the incident report as to whether the trio gave any information as to why they had broken into the house or if the cellphones had been stolen.
All three have past felony charges, including breaking or entering and drug possession.
Lori Thorne is currently on probation in a more recent drug-related case.
In 2019, Michael Thorne pled guilty to breaking into vehicles and removing property. He was charged with 13 counts of breaking and entering as well as multiple counts of theft of property, forgery and criminal mischief.
He was sentenced to five years in prison with three suspended and two to serve in that case and was given 6 years prison time on the 2022 breaking and entering case.
Michael Thorne is shown to be an inmate in the Northeast Arkansas Community Correction Center in Osceola.
