A Mountain Home woman charged with cashing two bogus checks at a local pawn shop appeared in Baxter County Circuit Court Monday.

It was announced that 39-year-old Tabatha Kay Johnson, who lists an address along East 10th Street, had paid victim restitution in full and that her case was being dismissed.

She was reported to have gone to a local pawn shop on two separate days and cashed checks each made for $1,000.

Persons cashing checks at the business must provide documentation, including driver’s licenses. Investigators were told that Johnson’s license had been scanned.

Documents pertaining to the two checks were given to investigators.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Johnson came in for an interview with investigators and admitted cashing the two checks.

She claimed she had received the checks from a man she had been communicating with online who said he was in the Navy currently overseas on a “mission.”

Johnson said she did not know the checks were bogus.

The checks were returned to the business, and the bank noted they could not be presented again because of being altered or forged.

According to investigative records, the checks Johnson cashed were only two of six bogus checks passed by four people at the business from June 6 through July 23.
