A partially clothed woman who was reported to have been sleeping in a vehicle at an apartment complex on Highway 62 West when arrested made an appearance in Baxter County Circuit Court last Monday.
Forty-eight-year-old Summer Overmyer of Mountain Home pled not guilty to charges of breaking or entering and disorderly conduct.
Her public defender asked the court to release Overmyer on her own recognizance, but Circuit Judge John Putman said no to that request and imposed a $1,500 bond.
On Oct. 4, Mountain Home police received a complaint about the woman.
When officers arrived on scene, they were told the woman had gotten out of the vehicle and was walking eastbound into town.
A number of units began an initially unsuccessful hunt for the woman. One officer returned to the apartment complex, drove through the parking lot and saw a pickup truck with the passenger side door open and a woman standing by the door.
She was said to be taking items out of the truck and throwing them on the ground. When the officer spoke to her, she said she woke up in the truck and was now cleaning it out.
The items she had removed from the vehicle included vape packages, Red Bull cans, Gatorade bottles and medication packages.
When she was asked if the truck belonged to her, she said no. The officer reported Overmyer to be “disoriented and stumbling.”
The officer said that he smelled no alcohol about Overmyer’s person.
A witness told the officer that Overmyer had been wandering around the complex and had attempted to get into her apartment.
Overmyer had indicated she was staying in one of the apartments but had no identification, wallet, cellphone or key to an apartment or vehicle. An attempt was made to have someone open the apartment she claimed to live in, but no one answered the door.
Other officers arrived and began speaking to witnesses. They were told that Overmyer had allegedly been trying to gain entry to a number of vehicles parked at the complex.
The witness said that as Overmyer moved through the complex parking lot, she would frequently lift her dress exposing herself.
The owner of the truck in which Overmyer had been seen sleeping was a resident at the complex, and police were able to contact him. He said he did not know Overmyer and had not given her permission to be in his truck or to remove items from the vehicle.
At that point, police took Overmyer into custody and transported her to the Baxter County Detention Center.
At the jail, Overmyer was said to have had a difficult time understanding instructions from the jail staff.
OTHER INCIDENT
Overmyer was arrested in late January 2017 after she broke into a house wearing no clothing.
When the resident and a friend arrived home after a shopping trip, she heard something inside the house.
When she opened the door, she told officers she saw a naked female walk out of a bedroom, yelling and throwing things.
Overmyer was reported to have run outside the house, jumped into a vehicle and locked the passenger door. She was trying to lock the driver’s side door but was stopped by one of the women.
Overmyer then threw a purse and a soft drink at the woman.
The witnesses said Overmyer jumped out of the first truck and got into another one at a nearby residence. She is reported to have started honking the horn.
She then bailed out of the second truck and went to another house where the resident let her come in. When officers arrived at the neighbor’s home, they were told that a naked woman was on the couch. The resident told police she did now know the woman.
The neighbor said when Overmyer approached her house, she was asking for help, and she let her in the residence.
After police arrived, the resident provided clothing so Overmyer could get dressed. She was taken into custody.
Police found the woman had changed her name from Jones to Overmyer.
While in the first house, Overmyer is reported to have broken mirrors and thrown electronics on the floor. There was broken glass and other items in the kitchen and hallway.
In the 2017 case, Overmyer was charged with residential burglary, criminal trespass, disorderly conduct and public intoxication.
She pled guilty in August 2017 and was sentenced to six years in prison, with three suspended and three to serve.
