The Gainesville R-V School District is making plans for another construction project. The district is seeking a Land Water Conservation Fund grant through the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to build a new track around Benton F. Breeding Stadium.

The cost of constructing the track is projected at $1 million. The district is seeking a matching grant of $500,000, and the remainder would need to be raised from district funds and/or community support. A $25,000 donation has reportedly already been pledged to the district.

Gainesville Superintendent Justin Gilmore says the current track is in disrepair.

In order to receive the grant, the district has named its plan Project BARK (Bulldogs Active Recreation and Kids). One of the major features of the project is to expand the track from five lanes to eight. Gilmore says it’s also the district’s intention to make the track compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

This is not the first major project the school has taken on in the past five years. Gilmore says during that period, the district has received nearly $4 million in grant money.
