Food stocks at the new Oakland food pantry
A new food pantry in Oakland aims to provide families in need with supportive food supplies in Marion and Baxter Counties.
The pantry will serve families from the Midway area, up Arkansas Highway 5 North and to the state line. An ARPA Fund Grant facilitated by Marion County has provided funding for the new location and was used to renovate the center on the community center grounds. New refrigerators, updates to the building and food purchases from the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas were among the purchases made. Other improvements include a new generator and propane fuel tank which enables the center to continue to operate in the event of a power outage preserving food stocks as well providing a shelter location during times of emergency.
The food pantry sits adjacent to the community center in Oakland.
Misty Treat, President of the Oakland Area Improvement Association, was a recent guest on KTLO’s Talk of the Town with Sammy Raycraft and she says the pantry will act as lifeline to local families.

The first day of food distribution will be November 13 from 10 until noon and Treat says that they will continue to give out food on a reoccurring schedule each month.
