A few area state legislature races were decided on Tuesday.
John Payton will remain the state senator for District 22, which includes southeastern Fulton County and eastern Izard County. With 83% reporting, the Republican incumbent had 27,103 votes for 82% to beat Democratic challenger Sandy Maier with 5,841 votes for 18%.
Republican Alyssa Brown will succeed Josh Miller as the District 41 state representative after garnering 12,053 votes for 79%. Democratic opponent Tom Nowlin had 3,134 votes for 21%. District 41 includes southern Stone County.
Republican Harlan Breaux will keep his position as the state representative for District 6, which includes northern Boone County. Breaux had 8,456 votes for 66%. Democrat Rick Delaney tallied 3,707 votes for 29%, and Libertarian Dakota Logan finished with 607 votes for 5%.
Arkansas Secretary of State John Thurston won the race to become the state’s new treasurer. The Republican had 747,372 votes for 65.4%. Democrat John Pagan garnered 345,614 votes for 30.3%, and Libertarian Michael Pakko ended up with 49,415 votes for 4.3%.
