First responders are back at the scene of a structure fire that reignited early Wednesday morning in the 300 block of Garrison Avenue, near the Bricktown Brewery. The fire originally broke out around 1:30 a.m., and crews are now working to contain the renewed flames.
Fort Smith Fire Chief Boyd Waters said the cause of the flare-up remains unclear. “With so many voids in these old buildings, we don’t if it restarted from the initial fire. It’s too early to tell,” Boyd said Wednesday morning.
Police are warning the public to avoid the area as they prepare to close roads for safety. Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers are assisting the Fort Smith Police Department with traffic control, diverting vehicles onto the Dora Exit to keep drivers clear of the scene.
As of now, no injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fires is still under investigation.
