ASP Sergeant arrested on domestic assault charges

A Sergeant with the Arkansas State Police (ASP) was arrested this morning following an alleged altercation with his wife.41-year-old Sgt. Brandon Lofton of Benton faces multiple charges, including Aggravated Assault on a Family or Household Member, two counts of felony Terroristic Threatening, two counts of Third-Degree Domestic Battery, and First-Degree Interference with Emergency Communications.

The Saline County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic disturbance call at Lofton’s residence on Point View Road in Benton at approximately 7:27 a.m.

Lofton was taken into custody and transported to the Saline County Detention Center. An ongoing investigation is being led by the Saline County Sheriff’s Office.

In response to the incident, the Arkansas State Police placed Lofton on paid administrative leave while an internal investigation is conducted.

“We take allegations of this nature very seriously,” said ASP Colonel Mike Hagar. “Our Office of Professional Standards is conducting a thorough investigation.”

Lofton has been with the Arkansas State Police since August 2009.
