A Mountain Home man has been arrested for threatening to kill a woman, shooting a house multiple times, breaking into the house and ramming a truck with his truck which caused damage. Facing multiple charges for the incident last week is 45-year-old Virgil Thomas Horton III.

According to the probable cause affidavit from the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, 911 received three calls about shots being fired and a woman screaming for help on Wildcat Shoals Road last Thursday night. One caller said they heard a man telling the woman if she leaves he would kill her. The caller told dispatch the man was armed and was in a truck in the driveway.

When a deputy and an officer from the Gassville Police Department arrived, they found Horton III by the truck and took him into custody. The deputy spoke with the first caller who said he heard several shots, and then a few minutes later, more shots and a woman saying “Don’t shoot me.”

A second witness told deputies when he heard shots he went outside but Horton III threatened him and he went back into his house. A short time later, he heard a loud bang. When he went outside, he discovered a large dent in his truck along with a broken tail light. A deputy checked Horton’s truck and found matching damage including paint transfer from the victim’s truck to Horton III’s truck.

When deputies went inside the house, they found it had been ransacked, with items all over the floor and broken glass on the ground. The door had been broken into and the door trim was broken but the deadbolt was still in the locked position. There were two bullet holes found in the home.

Horton III is facing charges of residential burglary, committing a terroristic act by shooting and causing property damage, first degree criminal mischief, third degree domestic battery and public intoxication. He is being held on bonds totaling $25,000.
