The city of Searcy has been awarded a $314,165 grant from the Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC) to enhance a local development site.According to city officials, the grant will be used to improve Forward Searcy Site 1, located on Veterans Boulevard. These upgrades aim to make the site more attractive to potential businesses looking for suitable locations.

The funding will support various site development activities, including drainage improvements, grading, dirt work, and general rehabilitation. The AEDC grant will help match additional investments needed for these efforts.

Darrell Welch of Forward Searcy noted, “Many businesses are looking for properties that are as close to shovel ready as possible- These funds will allow us to improve the property in a way that will make it more appealing to businesses.”

The city-owned property has been recognized as a key opportunity for economic growth, thanks to its strategic location and easy access. Earlier this year, the Searcy City Council approved efforts to market the site for development.
