One of two people involved in a “grandparent scam” appeared in Baxter County Circuit Court on December 9th.

Thirty-three-year-old Jessica Raymond, who lists an address in Little Rock on court papers, pled guilty to four counts of fraudulent use of a debit card and one count each of financial identity fraud and non-financial identity fraud.

She was sentenced to five years-probation.

According to the probable cause affidavits, Raymond and 25-year-old Jacob Swadley of rural Mountain Home obtained a used cellphone and texted a woman in Oklahoma telling her a granddaughter was in trouble, and money was needed to get her out of the situation.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Raymond and Swadley used the fake story to obtain financial information from the woman, enabling them to make purchases with debit cards.

Swadley pled guilty to the charges against him in May and was sentenced to five-years-probation.

Restitution of almost $500 was assessed.
