A West Plains man has been sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the death of an infant.
Twenty-eight-year-old Levi Coffel admitted to his role in the August 2023 incident, where police responded to a home on Burke Avenue for a medical emergency. Upon arrival, officers found a six-month-old infant who was not breathing. Despite efforts by medical crews, the baby could not be revived.
Investigators reported smelling drugs in the house when they arrived. Coffel told authorities he had placed the infant in a bathtub with the water running but became distracted while retrieving a diaper bag. He left the baby unattended for several minutes. Coffel said he attempted to resuscitate the child while calling 911.
Police also discovered three other children in the home at the time of the incident.
