The high school football season will come to an end Saturday night in Little Rock with an area team competing in its first state championship game in school history. Salem will compete for the Class 3A state title as they meet Bismarck.
The Greyhounds, who entered the postseason as the 3A-2 conference champions with a record of 11-3, have won their last eight games to play in the last game of the year. Salem head coach Josh Watson says this an exciting time for him, his team and the community.
Listen:
The Greyhounds advanced to Saturday’s championship game after going to Mansfield last week and picking up the 38-20 victory in the semifinals. That was a matchup the team had circled even before they defeated Rivercrest in the quarterfinals, and Watson says they went on the Tigers’ home field and took care of business.
Listen:
Salem is getting ready to face a Bismarck team that has gone undefeated in 13 games on the season and entered the playoffs as the conference champs of the 3A-7. The Lions punched their ticket to Little Rock after beating up on Fordyce last week 49-12. Watson says Bismarck is going to a tough matchup under the direction of seventh-year head coach Daniel Keithley.
Listen:
Kickoff at War Memorial Stadium is scheduled for 6:30. Saturday’s game will be televised by Arkansas PBS.
