The storm system, moving along the Gulf Coast, is spreading moisture northward into a cold air mass over Arkansas. Snowfall is expected to begin after 4 Thursday, with the heaviest precipitation occurring overnight into Friday morning. By Friday afternoon, the storm is expected to taper off, leaving roads treacherous and travel conditions hazardous.
“This is the main show,” Lewis said. “Here comes the snow.”
While northern and central Arkansas will see mostly snow, southern portions of the state are forecast to experience a mix of rain, sleet, and snow. Areas near the Missouri border are likely to see consistent snow throughout the event.
Temperatures will remain cold following the storm, with highs in the upper 30s to lower 40s and lows in the upper teens to lower 20s through early next week.
