A push to attain grant funding to help local students and businesses grow is underway through the ACT Workkeys Initiative.
Funding to help students enter the workforce out of school can be obtained if a certain number of businesses register for the initiative. Thirty-four businesses have already registered and around 20 more are needed.
The Workkeys Initiative is a national career ready certification process for students entering the workforce after school and is also available to adult learners. The process involves students taking an assessment to obtain a certification to show their proficiency in graphic literacy, workplace documents and applied math.
Students can put this certification on their resume, which can help potential employers know the skills they bring to the business at a glance without having to ask specific questions. As of last week 112 juniors from Mountain Home Public Schoools had signed up to take the WorkKeys Assessment. That is a participation increase of 180% from last year.
Rebecca Camp, the Special Programs Coordinator for Mountain Home Public Schools, says the grants which will be obtained by the community becoming Workkeys certified will help students as they go to enter the workforce.
