A portion of Newton County Road 5, also known as Cave Mountain Road, will close for road improvements. The closure, which started Wednesday, is coordinated by Newton County and Buffalo National River and will take place Mondays through Thursdays from 8 until 4, with the road fully open to traffic on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

The affected two-mile section starts at the intersection of Arkansas Highway 21 and Newton County Road 5 in Boxley Valley. The closure will impact one access route to the Whitaker Point/Hawksbill Crag Trailhead, located on U.S. Forest Service land. Visitors can still reach the trailhead from gravel roads off Arkansas Highway 16, west of Boxley Valley.

The improvement project will occur in multiple phases and is expected to take several months to complete. Officials advise travelers to plan accordingly.
