The North Arkansas Electric Cooperative (NAEC) has completed construction of its 30th substation after eight months of work. The cooperative recently dedicated the new Galatia Substation and a transmission line in the Norfork area.

The substation is now energized and serves 750 member accounts across 85 miles of distribution lines that were previously powered by the Norfork Substation.

CEO Mel Coleman says “NAEC strives to deliver reliable, affordable and responsible electricity to our members. With the Norfork, Culp and Lone Rock areas having grown in recent years as far as load, this new substation gives us greater flexibility during normal operation and outage situations. We also built the substation so that it has capacity for future growth.”

The Galatia Substation project includes a new 2.8 mile transmission line which connects the substation to a transmission line between the co-op’s Norfork and Pineville substations.
