A rural Norfork woman is in the Baxter County Detention Center on an accusation of stealing a vehicle after the driver had to leave it when it ran out of gas. Forty-one-year-old Randi Dodd is facing a felony count of theft of property.

According to the incident report, the driver of the vehicle informed a Baxter County deputy she ran out of gas in front of the Salesville Bible Church on the night of Jan. 20. She returned at 10:30 the next morning to find her vehicle missing.

The deputy contacted local towing companies, and all stated they hadn’t picked up her vehicle. In addition, the pastor of the church advised he hadn’t seen the vehicle or had it towed. It was entered into the National Crime Information Center.

The driver later called back and said she was informed Dodd had her vehicle. The victim contacted Dodd, who reportedly refused to say where the vehicle was.

Another deputy contacted a Baxter County investigator just after 3 Wednesday morning and stated he had located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Dodd, and she was placed into custody on a revocation bench warrant. After being unable to contact the victim, the deputy called a local towing company to take possession of the vehicle.

The investigator later spoke with the victim after 1 Wednesday afternoon and informed her where the vehicle was located. She claimed she discovered the day before who had her vehicle from a gas station on the Sheid-Hopper Bypass. A worker alleges Dodd had the vehicle and bragged about retrieving it from the side of the road. The victim later sent text messages between her and Dodd to the investigator. The messages reportedly indicate she advised Dodd to return the vehicle and that it was reported as stolen.

Online jail records indicate Dodd is also facing a pair of possession of a controlled substance charges. Her bond is set at $7,500.
