In the wake of the 2024 tornado that left numerous trees downed across city lots, the City of Briarcliff is offering free permits to residents in need of firewood.
Individuals can visit the Briarcliff city office located at 945 Scenic Drive, Tuesday through Friday from 9 until 3, to obtain a no-cost permit and sign a liability waiver. Once the permit is issued, city staff will direct participants to designated lots where they can cut and remove downed trees for personal firewood use.
The program is intended to help residents who rely on wood for heat while assisting the city in clearing storm debris. Officials emphasize that only fallen trees may be cut and removedstanding trees are not included in the program.
