
Eight area school districts have received cash awards from the Arkansas School Recognition Program. The awards were created to provide financial awards to public schools that experience high student performance and student academic growth on the ATLAS exams in the third through tenth grades and for high graduation rates. The awards are either $100 or $50 per student for schools in the top 10% in the state.
Here are the schools in north central Arkansas and the awards they received:
-Yellville-Summit received $31,031 for being in the top 5% growth and graduation rate
-Bergman Elementary School received $40,455 for being in the top 5% performance
-Valley Springs Middle School received $34,321 for being in the top 5% performance
-Norfork High School received $9,613 for being in the top 6-10% growth and graduation rate
-Izard County High School received $8,756 for being in the top 6-10% growth and graduation rate
-Forest Heights Elementary in Harrison received $18,226 for being in the top 6-10% performance
-Harrison Middle School received $40,499 for being in the top 6-10% performance
-Valley Springs Elementary School received $14,419 for being in the top 6-10% performance
-Valley Springs Middle School received $11,659 for being in top 6-10% growth rate
-Mammoth Spring High School received $10,374 for being in the top 6-10% growth and graduation rate
-Jasper High School received $9,565 for being in the top 6-10% growth and graduation rate
Nearly $7 million in awards were handed out.
Potential uses for the money include one-time staff bonuses, equipment purchases and staff training.
