A Calico Rock man faces multiple charges after allegedly fleeing from authorities in a stolen vehicle. Thirty-nine-year-old Lewie Branscum is charged with theft, reckless driving, expired driver’s license, disregarding a stop sign, with a habitual offender status.
According to the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a stolen truck and trailer on Push Mountain Road on February 10. Later that day, the truck was spotted on Bosswell Road in Izard County, with Branscum behind the wheel. The truck was later seen again in Calico Rock, but without the trailer. The U.S. Forestry Service later found the trailer abandoned in Baxter County.
Earlier, the Mountain Home Police Department received a complaint about a man asking for fuel at a local residence. Officers found the stolen vehicle, but when they attempted a traffic stop, Branscum fled.
On February 11, Izard County deputies found the truck in Baxter County and initiated a pursuit. Baxter County deputies joined, deploying spike strips on County Road 74. Branscum hit the spikes at high speed, blowing out both front tires. He attempted to turn but lost control and was arrested.
Branscum was booked into the Baxter County Detention Center on a $25,000 bond. He faces felony theft charges, along with multiple misdemeanors. Additional charges are pending from Izard County and the Mountain Home Police Department.
