College students pursuing conservation careers can gain hands-on experience this summer through the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s internship program. Applications are open through March 15.
Internships are available in several fields, including forestry, wildlife management, environmental interpretation, fisheries management, environmental science, biological research, and law enforcement.
The paid internships provide specialized training and insight into conservation careers. Positions offer up to 320 hours of work at $13 per hour, with an estimated 40-hour workweek.
“Internships provide a clear vision of what students want for their future by offering hands-on experience and exposure to various roles within AGFC,” said Lauren Cannon, facility manager for Ponca Nature Center and post-secondary outreach coordinator. “While interns gain valuable skills that will undoubtedly benefit them in a future career, they also have the opportunity to engage in fun and meaningful experiences.”
Applicants must be pursuing a degree in a conservation-related field, have at least 60 college credit hours by the start of the internship, be enrolled in a postgraduate program or have graduated within the past 12 months, and maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA.
