As winter weather moves through the Twin Lakes Area, many are choosing to embrace the cold by participating in the annual Polar Plunge to support the Arkansas Special Olympics.
The Mountain Home Polar Plunge will take place on Saturday morning at Henderson Park. Registration begins at 10, and the plunge will start at 11. Individuals or teams can register for $50 per person. Each registration comes with a t-shirt, and those who register or donate a total of $250 or more will receive a towel.
The event will also feature additional activities, including a costume contest and a medal parade. This year’s costume contest theme is Mardi Gras.
Arkansas is one of the last remaining states which does not require athletes to pay for their own supplies. Keeshia DeShields, the Regional Development Coordinator for the Special Olympics, says fundraisers are the only way to keep it that way.
