Friday basketball results include Flippin boys losing in regional semifinals

Several area high school basketball teams competed in regional tournament semifinals on Friday.

The Class 3A Region 2 Tournament held its third night of action at Melbourne.
Flippin’s boys came up just short of an appearance in Saturday’s championship game. The Bobcats were edged out by the host Bearkatz 56-54.
Bergman will be Melbourne’s opponent in the title contest. The Panthers defeated Osceola by a final of 56-48.
Melbourne was also able to advance to the final of the girls’ bracket. The Lady Bearkatz got past Mountain View 58-54.
Melbourne will be matched up with Manila in the championship game. Bergman ended up losing to the Lady Lions 70-66.

Both of Izard County’s teams advanced to the title games of the Class 2A Region 2 Tournament at Riverside High School in Lake City.
The boys’ game ended up with the Cougars getting the 61-43 over the defending state champs from East Poinsett County. Gabe Spray was Izard County’s top scorer with 33 points, and Cash Arnhart finished with 10. The Cougars improve to 24-10 on the season.
The Izard County girls followed with a 56-45 win over Buffalo Island Central. Quinn Johnson paced the Lady Cougars with 23 points, and Makensie Yancey ended up with 12. Izard County’s record is now 27-4.

Rural Special’s girls were sent to the third place game of the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament at West Side High School in Greers Ferry. The Lady Rebels fell to Earle 66-38.

Three area teams competed in the semifinals of the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament at Magazine.
The Lead Hill boys lost the last game of the night to County Line 61-48. The Tigers were led by Noah Royce with 15 points, and Dawson Lively added 14.
Jasper will be the Indians’ opponent in Saturday’s title game. The Pirates invoked the mercy rule as they routed Mulberry 82-37.
Jasper’s girls will join their male counterparts in the finals. The Lady Pirates defeated County Line 48-29.

Both of Ozark Mountain’s teams were beaten in the semifinals of the Class 2A Region 1 Tournament at Hackett. On the boys’ side, the Bears fell to the host Hornets 55-50. The Ozark Mountain girls followed with a 49-38 loss to Mountainburg.
