
Regional tournaments came to an end for high school basketball in Arkansas on Saturday.
Flippin’s boys finished fourth in the Class 3A Region 2 Tournament at Melbourne. The Bobcats were edged out by Osceola 60-58.
The boys’ title was captured by Melbourne. The host Bearkatz defeated Bergman by a final of 66-54.
Melbourne was not as fortunate in the girls’ championship game. The Lady Bearkatz fell to Manila 65-61.
Mountain View’s girls ended up in third place in the tournament. The Lady Yellowjackets topped Bergman 62-52.
Izard County ended up splitting the championship games of the Class 2A Region 2 Tournament at Riverside High School in Lake City.
The Lady Cougars captured the title as they doubled up the host Lady Rebels 40-20. Quinn Johnson led Izard County with 23 points. The Lady Cougars improve to 28-4 on the season.
Izard County came up just short in the boys’ game as they lost to Cedar Ridge 63-60. The Cougars were led by Gabe Spray with 30 points, and Kasen Black added 11. Izard County falls to 24-11 on the year.
The Rural Special girls finished in fourth place in the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament at West Side High School in Greers Ferry. The Lady Rebels fell to Marked Tree 59-53.
Three area teams competed on the final day of the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament at Magazine.
Lead Hill’s boys ended up fourth as they lost to Mulberry 67-64. D.J. Evans led the Tigers with 21 points and 10 rebounds, Coda Lemon had 18 points, and Brett Arnold chipped in 10.
The other boys’ game ended with Jasper as the runner-up. The Pirates were edged out by County Line 66-63.
Jasper fared better on the girls’ side as they easily took home the championship trophy. The Lady Pirates invoked the mercy rule as they routed Scranton 59-25.
Both of Ozark Mountain’s teams finished fourth in the Class 2A Region 1 Tournament at Hackett. The Lady Bears were just short of the win as Alpena came out on top 46-45. The Ozark Mountain boys later fell to Hector 59-41.
