Disaster Assistance Grants from Main Street Calico Rock and Main Street Arkansas were recently given out to businesses which were affected by recent flooding. The grants were used to make repairs to ceilings, roof structures and retaining walls.

Main Street Calico Rock President Gayle Cooper says “This grant program allowed these affected businesses to get their damage repaired quickly and back open. The important message is ‘we are open for business on Main Street in Calico Rock’ and we hope people will come see us.”

Businesses receiving grants included MP Hair, Knowles True Value, Calico Riverview Inn, and Calico Rock Artisan Gift Shop. Main Street Calico Rock also purchased a carpet cleaner that was used to shampoo carpets that were affected by storm damage, which benefits General Store, Cooper Antiques, and the Lofts Off Main.

Main Street Calico Rock works in partnership with Main Street Arkansas to support businesses located in the Main Street Historic District.

Executive Director Bambi Bowden says “We were fortunate to be able to provide some assistance to these local businesses that were hit hard by hail, wind, and then flooding. Main Street programs are grassroots initiatives that use state conservation sales tax dollars to benefit towns that have a historic district. It’s about preserving that history and rebuilding the local economy, which is what the Main Street program does.”
