BC Library – Prisoners in the Heartland: WWII Prison Camps in Arkansas

Join local historian Vincent Anderson and learn how the Holocaust influenced our region in the past and how it influences the current dynamics within the State of Arkansas. The focus will be on Arkansas’s involvement in maintaining prisoners of war including Italian and German POWs in camps and the 2 Japanese American internment camps. How did these prison camps influence the economy of Arkansas during the labor void formed by the absence of those serving in the military? Learn about the effect of the patriation of former prisoners as they became citizens of Arkansas and the United States of America and married into the communities here.
